What was it like going home from the hospital for you? Did your baby have any medical issues?

I have been very lucky with all three of my kids and no major medical problems. Jordan my oldest was the only one born in a hospital. I had a fast delivery and went home a few days later. I guess the whole mother thing came pretty natural for me. I did try to breastfeed my son, but after struggling with it for two weeks I gave up to the bottle. I was blessed with my son being so easy to take care of. He was what every mother would want for being a first time mom.

My two girls were both born at home so there was no dealing with medical staff and living by there rules. I work in the medical field and enjoyed being able to have my them at home and being able to do things my way. Both of my girls were healthy but need to have billi lights since they both had jaundice. Morgan my second one had a hard time trying to breast feed her and bottle feed her as well. She just didn't have a interest in latching on. It took a lot of work to get her to latch on to the bottle, but after awhile she finally came around. Overall Morgan was pretty easy also just had to put her on a soy formula since she would spit up a lot with regular formula.

Erin has been pretty easy also, I tried to breast feed here but I don't know if I was not getting her to latch on properly or what but by the end of week I was into much pain to continue and switched her to the bottle. She also had to be under lights for about a day. I have been blessed with my kids and how easily they have been. Now for the toddler age and the tantrums I deal with. That is another story.

Birth Story

Well I will start with Jordan since he was my first. He came one day early which no problem with me. My labor was pretty fast with him which is really nice for being my first delivery. I woke up in the morning and sat up in bed and felt like somthing popped. Went to the bathroom not thinking anything had really happened. Went around doing my morning think when I was having quite a bit of pain in my lower back. No one had told me about back labor. By 9am I was calling my husband to come get me since I wasn't feeling good. I tried to call my NP midwife but I kept giving them the wrong number to call me back. Must have been the pain not letting me think straight. By the time my husband got home I told him to take me to the hospital. I had already called them to let them know I was coming in. When we got there still didn't have a room ready and since it was my first they figured I had some time. By the time I got into a room it was about 10:30am. My midwife showed up and decided to check on my and I was at 2cm. Well 45min later she checked again and I was already to 10cm. Talk about about a jump. Jordan was born at 12:30pm 7lbs 40z, that day so that delivery went well.

Lets talk about Morgan #2. My labor with her went really fast. Morgan due date was April 4th. Well she decided that was to early and waited till April 13th to come out. I woke up around 12:30am with some pain so I decided to go sit at the computer thinking the pain my go away. Spent about hour down there and decided to wake up my husband so it was about 1:30am. He asked if I had called the midwife since we were planning on having a water birth at home. We called her and she got to our place by 2:30am. Well they were trying to get the water birth stuff put togethere when I told them I needed to push. My midwife went to check on me when my water broke. They were having a hard time hearing the baby's heart beat so they had me lay down. Well Morgan came out at 3:30am 7lbs 6oz. with me laying on our bedroom floor. So much for a water birth.

Then there was Erin delivery. Since my last two births went pretty fast we figured that Erin would come out just as fast. WRONG!! Erin was five days late. My day started like any other day. Went and took Jordan to swimming lessons and had a pretty good contraction there. Was in the drive thru a hour later and had another one there. By the time we got home I had another contraction in the drive way. Well when I got in the house everything slowed down and had a few here and there but nothing that continus. Well by 4:30 my contractions started to come more often and I called my midwife when they were 10min apart. Well she was about 30 miles away so it was going to take her awhile to get to my place. They had me go lay down on my side to help slow down things. By the time she got there they were about 5min apart. I was having a lot of lower back pain and it didn't matter what position I was in to relieve the pain. We dedcided not to try the water birth this time since Morgan birth went so fast we figured Erin would be just as fast. I wish we would have done it. Erin finally came at 10:30 that night weighing 8lbs 2oz. My husband was finally able to deliver one of the babies this time which ment a lot to him.
